On the brighter side, the departure of GE Plastics, being acquired by the government-owned Saudi Basic Industries Corp. in an $11.6 billion deal, is proving to be a fairly smooth transition. Sabic Innovative Plastics — the new name for the company once the takeover is completed in a matter of weeks — is on a hiring binge since certain functions previously handled by GE corporate headquarters in Fairfield, Conn., will be handled in Pittsfield (Massachusetts).
